33. Minerva Writes Poems 密涅瓦寫(xiě)詩(shī) Minerva is only a little bit older than me but already she has two kids and a husband who left her mother raised her kids alone and it looks like her daughters will go that way too. 密涅瓦只比我大一點(diǎn)點(diǎn)，可她已經(jīng)有兩個(gè)孩子和一個(gè)出走的丈夫。她媽媽獨(dú)自撫養(yǎng)了孩子們，看來(lái)她的女兒也要走她的老路了。 Minerva cries because her luck is unlucky. 因?yàn)樗\(yùn)氣這樣糟，密涅瓦哭呀哭。 Every night and every day. 每個(gè)夜晚每個(gè)白天。 And prays. 并且祈禱。 But when the kids are asleep after she's fed them their pancake dinner,?she writes poems on little pieces of paper that she folds over and over and holds in her hands a long time, little pieces of paper that smell like a dime. 不過(guò)，在喂完孩子們煎餅晚餐后，他們就睡著了，她會(huì)在小紙片上寫(xiě)詩(shī)。那紙片她折了又折，捏在手里很長(zhǎng)時(shí)間了，聞起來(lái)像一角硬幣的小紙片。 She lets me read her poems. I let her read mine. 她讓我讀她的詩(shī)。我讓她讀我的。 She is always sad like a house on fire—always something wrong. 她總是悲傷得像一所著了火的房子——總是有什么出了問(wèn)題。 She has many troubles,?but the big one is her husband who left and keeps leaving. 她麻煩太多了，最大的麻煩就是她丈夫會(huì)出走，而且不停地出走。 One day she is through and lets him know enough is enough. 一天她不想再忍了，她讓他知道夠了就是夠了。 Out the door he goes. 從門里出去的是他。 Clothes, records, shoes. Out the window and the door locked. 從窗戶里出去的是他的衣服、唱片和鞋子，門鎖上了。 But that night he comes back and sends a big rock through the window. 可那晚他又回來(lái)了，從窗戶扔進(jìn)來(lái)一塊大石頭。 Then he is sorry and she opens the door again. 然后他很難過(guò)，她就又開(kāi)了門。 Same story. 老故事。 Next week she comes over black and blue and asks what can she do? 過(guò)了一個(gè)星期她渾身青紫地跑過(guò)來(lái)問(wèn)她該怎么辦？ Minerva. 密涅瓦。 I don't know which way she'll go. 我不知道她該往哪去。 There is nothing I can do. 我毫無(wú)辦法。
