Let it be forgotten, as a flower is forgotten,
Forgotten as a fire that once was singing gold,
Let it be forgotten for ever and ever,
Time is a kind friend, he will make us old.
If anyone asks, say it was forgotten
Long and long ago,
As a flower, as a fire, as a hushed footfall
In a long forgotten snow.

【作者】
蒂絲黛爾(Sara Teasdale,1884-1933),美國著名女詩人。出生于密蘇里州的圣路易城,自小成長于傳統(tǒng)保守家庭,受到父母過度的保護(hù)。畢業(yè)于Hosmer Hall女子學(xué)院。
一生共出過十部詩集。這位富有才情的女詩人是青春和愛情的歌者,早年的詩感情熾熱,情調(diào)優(yōu)美,中年后多凄清悲涼之作;藝術(shù)上精巧凝練,富于音樂美。
她的名詩《忘掉它吧》在30年代便被介紹到我國,《現(xiàn)代》雜志曾刊載過施蟄存先生的譯文。
