Ode to the Tangerine
A tree the heavens gifted to earth
Thus the tangerine came to stay.
All these years it has not moved
From the Southern Kingdom it never did stray.
It roots run deep, and hard to pull.
Waver its mind shall never do.
The glossy leaves are green and full
Tangerines are loved by both me and you.
Branches aplenty, thorns a-sharp.
The fruit so cute and round.
Gold and green mix together
Beautiful patterns to be found.
Outside intricate, inside white.
So similar to the virtuous men.
Its musical beauty so smooth, so refined.
For unmarred radiance the praise shall stem.
So few in years, so young in age.
Yet so different from the rest
Erect on your own, not moving an inch.
How can you not be loved the best?
Your roots run deep, and hard to pull.
For you do not desire much.
Standing alone in this world,
Not just bending to others as such.
Virtuous even without witness,
Never a skewed thought to birth.
Not at all selfish or self-absorbed,
The earth and sky acknowledge your worth.
Long live such wonderful spirit.
I hope to ever befriend you so.
Young, beautiful and refined
Dignity and respect are your abode.
Though your age is few in years,
My enlightenment you shall inspire.
An epitome of the firm-standing spirit
A fine example for which to aspire!
